Happy Friday to everyone! Does anyone have any creative discipline ideas for my 7 yr old son? He suffers from ADHD and is bipolar. I choose never to spank him as a form of discipline. After all, it can be quite difficult at times to distinguish his illness-driven behavior vs. his "I am 7 yrs old and testing my boundaries" behavior. I also have a 12 yr old dtr and I feel that since I constantly tell each of them that it is not permissable for them to use their hands on each other to settle their arguments, then how can I use spanking to discipline them? I know that there are many forms of discipline that parents use and it is a personal choice for each parent. Not spanking works for my family.
Anyway, my son constantly tests his limits. I have tried taking away his toys-doesn't seem to bother him; making him go to bed early for 1 week (doesn't bother him much), taking away computer time (bothers him a little bit). I even tried telling him that he needs time to himself and that we will not speak to him during that time. That is the only thing that seems to get to him. However, I cannot constantly use that, either, because it will eventually wear off and not be effective anymore.
Does anyone have creative, non-violent, lesson-teaching forms of discipline that they can share with me?
I thank you all for your input.
Have a great day!
Jackie
