My mother-inlaw and I argued yesterday about the way I discipline my child. She said she would "discipline" my two-year old daughter if she saw I wasn't doing anything about it.

I believe that if my daughter is having a tantrum, there's must be a reason. I'd rather talk it out, find the problem and fix it instead of offering a quick slap, as my mother in law put it.

How do I deal with this?

sounds like you have a family parenting issue here. if your mother inlaw doesn't live with you, this could confuse your child as to who the discipliner is and what they can and cannot get away with.
