Current study proved that Superoxide Dismutase (SOD1) was found in approximately 20% by families with FALS. The gene SOD1 consists of five regions, which are called exons. If you think of your genetic material as character string of the letters, which form together a book of the instructions
for the human body, the gene SOD1 is consisted a chapter and of 5 different sides. SOD1's normal role is to detoxicate the substances which are called free radicals, which can be harmful to the cells. Changes in the gene SOD1 are thought to drive in order to cause a new however still undefined function, which is poisonous, for neurons. Frequently, changes SOD1 are transferred in an autonomic dominating way.

The technology of genetic test conducted for change SOD1 exists. The patients and their families should discuss the questions and the concern with their neurologist and advise genetic for more information on this complex and personal subject, However SOD1 can’t give final result to diagnoses ALS. At present, the new therapy is tried on this animal model slow down
the progress of ALS. Although still in the distant future, the gene therapies becomes the genetic change to improve also examined.
