The most common symptoms of arthritis are pain and stiffness in the joints. The pain usually increases after exercise. Rheumatoid arthritis can develops gradually over several months, with persistent pain and stiffness in one or more joints. Ultimately the whole body is affected. Symptoms include anemia, colitis, constipation, deformed hands and feet.

In the early stage of the disease, joints are stiff but not swollen. Over a period of time the pain may become constant and unbearable so that some time the patient can wake you up at night. The cartilage may continue to wear away until bone is crunching on bone and a grating sound is heard.
