The question at hand is should asthma patients use dehumidifiers to treat asthma, and the answer is a YES, YES and Yes.
Please note that you would use this option if you live in a humid place. For example lets say you live by the sea or a place that has 50-60% humidity then try getting a dehumidifer for you self.
Also instead of buying one buy 2 dehudifers and see for your self. I can tell you that after 20 yrs of trying to solve my moms asthma issues we have finally solved her asthma. I can not share my joy of knowing that finally a simple dehumidifier could solve astma.

Hi
I am interesting in finding out out how asthma was treated, how sever was the asthma, and how can a simple dehumidifier can solve a problem of 20 yrs of an asthmatic patient. Are you still taking any medication for asthma? |

My mom lived in an area that was humid around 70% and above most of the time. She lived in houston and has had astma for years. She has been allergy tested and is allergic to pollen, dust mites, rag weed and other known allergens.
On most days she used to take nebuilizers every day, aerosol inhalers, clartin, singular, adavir, prednesone several times a month and yet most days it was not controlled. The doctor kept on prescribing medicine and we kept on buy expensive medicine like xopenex for nebulizers etc. To the doctors defense my mom was not a regular with her medicine and so many times took predisone which was very frustrating.
For yrs I would see that when she went to visit her parents outside of the country she would be just fine. She did not have to take any medication. The place was even more polluted, however, the one thing that finally clicked in my head after yrs and yrs was that there was very limited humidity.
So i purchased a dehumidifier for my mom and tested it 3 year ago, however to my disappointment my mom still had her asthma. So I gave up that angle and again tryed to search for a solution.
Then I thought maybe I should purchase two dehumidifiers and see since one can not cover the living room, kitchen and her room (primary places she is at ) And again I failed she still had her asthma.
So six months ago my mom again went to visit her parents and again she had no asthma symptons. How could an astmatic that took the biggest and best drugs in one city go to not taking anything and being fine this is what rang in my head.
Well lets just say that a tubelight came in my head, i thought maybe the demidifier is not enought. What I did this time is put both dehumidifers in the living room (which is close to the kitchen) and then in the evening I would move one of the dehumidifier to her room.
In short this time it worked. The solution was to put 2 dehumidifiers in the area she stayed most of the day which was the living room and it worked. I am planning to buy a third dehumidifer so that I do not have to move back and fourth.
You dont have to believe my experience but I hope you people try this and see if it works. I hated to see my mom suffer and I hope it helps others.! The worst part is that when I told her doctor during a check up she had no response, i think the docotors ego was hurt that after yrs of treating my mom was asthma she was not able to solve it and instead i solved it.
Good luck asthma suffers i hope my experience helps in relieving your astma issue and hopefully the asthma medication decreases.
FYI, my mom still takes claratin for now and I will be slowly removing her from this as well. |

Hi,
This was a very interesting read on a possible asthma treament option, dehumidifier is basically a asthma drug therapy for some astmatic patients maybe. I have used asthma inhalers for yrs and i have been diagnosed with bronchial asthma. I user to have a cat and i was told cat asthma and dog astma are triggers, so I got rid of my cat as well.
I think i have all the asthma allergies as well. My asthma signs and sysmptons can start with something as small as a walk to the park. In fact I had asthma as a child and used to get allergy induced asthma and exercise induced asthma during gym as well.
My main point is that is there are asthma statistics that show asthma is increasing and I am suprised that very few people have discussed asthma and dehumidifier. I have taken singular asthma for my tretment.
I wanted to let you know of the most common asthma drugs that my doctor has informed me on. Below is a list of some of the asthma treatment drugs.
inhaled corticosteroids:
* Aerobid, Asmanex, Azmacort, Flovent, Pulmicort, Qvar
leukotriene modifiers:
* Singulair, Accolate, Zyflo
Advair combination asthma drug. Xopenex as well ... and guess what i still have my asthma and i live in a humid place. Yes, they have helped but its safe to say I am dissapointed. I have had to take steroids such as prednisone when my asthma is really bad. I hear prednisone is really bad for you from a long term standpoint. However, prednisone is my asthma medicine of choice when its bad.
From what I have read, most do not recommend demudifier as a treatment option or there is no asthma guidline on this topic. You can find info on types of asthma and causes of asthma but how about some more effective tretments for asthma? How about some more effective asthma medications that are not so bad for you?
I would also like to say that I have bought asthma air purifiers, meaning air purifiers for my asthma and that has not helped. I have a history of asthma from my childhood and thus my rant on how frustrating asthma is for those involved.
Also I wanted to know the best place to get asthma information? Information on asthma and allergies, also if there are other natural cures for asthma that others have tried. In short I am open to different ideas at this point.
I am really happy to hear that your symptons were resolved by a dehumidifier. I am not as hopeful but let see. Even if 10% of the people can be helped then great for them. |
