Food poisoning happens when you eat a reef fish that has eaten a certain poisonous food.

In the US, fish poisoning is most common in New York, Washington, Hawaii, Florida, and Connecticut.

The best way to avoid Ciguatera is not to eat REEF fish. That said, if you do eat reef fish, only eat a fish that is no bigger than your plate with the head & tail on. I got Ciguatera in Jan/03. As I type this I am having a reaction. My left hand is 2X what it should be & is drying out & will then peel off. It is a 3 week cycle & I have been through it 18 times on my left hand & 7 times on my right. 4 of the reactions were both hands at the same time. Totally crippled. When I first got it I slept 18 hours a day & 22/23 hours on weekends. There is nothing like the feeling of your teeth falling out when you have no idea what is happening to you. My wife found it on the WEB 7 weeks after contracting it. I had been to about 15 different doctors & they could not explain what was happening to me.
